Our last full day in Europe celebrated the girls being girls again. We started our day off at Peggy Porschen, a chic bakery that features creative cupcakes, fancy cakes, afternoon tea, as well as breakfast and lunch fare. We came as walk-ins and ate from the all-day menu. I had the Asparagus & Black Truffle Benedict (prosciutto, poached egg, hollandaise sauce, truffle shavings, parmesan cheese, toasted sourdough bread) for $19.00*. My mom and sister each had the Classic Parlour Cream Tea with scones (one plain and one fruit) with cornish clotted cream and strawberry jam for $13.00*. My sister also had the Summer Avocado Sourdough Toast (beetroot hummus, egg, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, pomegranate, and chilli flakes) for $17.00*. I also had a Raspberry Mimosa (raspberry puree topped up with prosecco, served with a fresh raspberry) for $16.00*. This was a lovely meal in a fairytale-like cafe, decorated in shades of pink, florals, and frills.
From Peggy’s we walked to the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington. The V&A has free admission and ranges from extraordinary collections to unmissable exhibitions. The featured collections and exhibitions include: Medieval & Renaissance (1350-1600), Korea, Buddhism, China, Japan, Cast Courts, North Court, Residencies, Sculpture, Islamic Middle East, South Asia, South-East Asia, The Raphael Cartoons, Porter Gallery, Britain, Design, Silver, Sacred Silver, Stained Glass, Jewlery, Paintings, Tapestries, Photography, Ironwork, Metalware, and the National Art Library. I enjoyed this vast museum, particularly the massive sculptures and sparkly jewelry. I liked the variety of items at this museum more than The National Gallery. Overall, it was a fun way to experience culture and history.
On our way back to our hotel we stopped at Harrods which is home to over 3,000 brands. At Harrods one can shop designer fashion and accessories, luxury beauty, fine jewelry and watches, food, furniture, and more! I got some sushi to go as the quick service food does not have a designated spot to sit and eat.
We ended our tourist day out by revisiting Westminster Abbey and Big Ben (my favorite). We got some last-minute souvenirs at the Abbey before taking some pictures with Big Ben.
We continued our walk onwards to The Black Dog, a local pub with a rustic vibe for dinner. Taylor Swift put this pub on the map for me with her song The Black Dog. Unfortunately for Taylor, the pub was great. I had the Peach Salad (charred peach, serrano, vine tomato, mozzarella, and avocado) for $18.00*. My mom had the Buttermilk Chicken Schnitzel with a Caesar salad for $17.00*. My sister had the Baked Lemon Fish Special for $19.00*. I also had the Black Dog Lager (UK, 4.1%) for $6.75*. This was a perfect way to end our trip, at a local pub with good food, drinks, and company.
After dinner, we walked back to our hotel for the last time and finished up packing, squeezing in all of our souvenirs. Tomorrow, we were heading home.
