Plans for the Argentine Patagonia - Lake District

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

The links below are some of the main websites that I used during my initial research of planning to go to the Lake District

Lake District

  • Between the Andes Mountains with Chilean Patagonia to the West and Atlantic Patagonia to the East

  • Breathtaking views from every angle

  • San Carlos de Bariloche, known as Bariloche, serves as the region's major hub

  • The Heart of the City

  • Towers over the immense Nahuel Huapi Lake and the surrounding National Park, Bariloche provides a tranquil setting for lounging outdoors, savoring local cuisine, and admiring the picturesque scenery

Highlights in Bariloche & The Lake District

  • Parque Nacional Lanin

    • Volcan Lanin is the centerpiece of this National Park

    • Protects 3790 sq km of native Patagonian forest

  • Bariloche

    • Has one of the most gorgeous settings imaginable

    • Production of Argentina’s best chocolate

    • In the winter, it is great for skiing and snowboarding

    • In the summer, it is great for hiking, fishing, bike riding, and horseback riding

  • Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi

    • It was created to preserve local flora and fauna, including its Andean-Patagonian forests and rare animals

  • Ruta de los Siete Lagos

    • A spectacular road between towering, snow capped mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and dense pine forest

    • 100km classic

    • Recommended to tour

  • El Bolson

    • Mellow little village, nestled in between two mountain ranges

    • Has been declared a non-nuclear zone and an ecological municipality

  • Neuquen

    • Has a wealth of paleontological sites in the surrounding area

    • Excellent wineries just out of town

    • Good dining scene

    • Worthwhile art museum

  • San Martín de los Andes

    • A mellower version of Bariloche

    • Two peak periods - Winter for skiing at Cerro Chapelco & summer for hiking and climbing

    • A boat ride on the lake is a must do
